This policy applies to our Standard and Basic email products. It doesn’t cover Premium email.
To keep your email address active, you need to log in regularly—either at bt.com or through an email app on your computer or mobile.
If you use an email app on your computer or mobile, make sure your email settings are correct. Incorrect settings could cause your email to be deleted.
What happens if I don't log in regularly?
- After 60 days, we’ll send you an email or SMS to remind you to log in.
- We’ll send another reminder after 90 days if you still haven’t logged in.
- If you haven’t logged in for 150 days—either at bt.com or through an email app—we’ll delete your email address and everything in your mailbox. All your personal data will be permanently deleted and can’t be recovered. We do this to protect your digital identity.
- You may be able to reuse the email address for a short time, but your personal data won’t be recoverable.
To stay informed, make sure your contact details are up to date—so you don’t miss important messages from us. Log in to MyBT and go to ‘Personal details’ to check and update your info.
You can check and update these details by logging into My BT and selecting Personal details.
