If your BT Mobile phone goes missing while you're overseas, the steps are essentially the same as if you were in the UK.
Contact BT immediately
BT will take 2 important actions as soon as you get in touch:
- bar your SIM - so no one can make calls, send texts, or use your data
- blocklist your phone - so it can't be used on any network
Report the theft locally
Tell the local police your phone has been stolen and request a crime reference number. You'll need this if you plan to make an insurance claim.
Order a replacement SIM
You can request a new SIM during your call with BT or rder one online at any time.
- replacement SIMs can only be sent to your home address, not abroad
- delivery typically takes 1-2 business days
- once it arrives, you'll need to activate the new SIM before using it
- your BT Mobile number will stay the same
If you get your phone back
What happens next depends on whether you've ordered a replacement SIM.
SIM barred but no replacement ordered
BT can unbar your SIM and remove the phone from the blocklist.
Replacement SIM already ordered
You'll need to wait for the new SIM and activate it. The old SIM won't work anymore, but BT can still un-blocklist the phone.
