Your Mini Hub is ready to use when it arrives:
- the SIM card is already installed and active
- you do not need to call BT to activate it
If you already have a Mini Hub and report a fault or move home, BT can reactivate unlimited data while your broadband is down.
Setting Up the Mini Hub
Follow these steps to connect your Mini Hub:
- Plug it in and switch it on.
- Wait for it to connect to the 4G network.
- Use the charging cable with a USB plug to move the hub for better signal.
- Place it near a window for stronger signal.
- It works best with 4G but also supports 3G.
Connecting Devices
You can connect up to 20 Wi-Fi devices.
- Use the network name and password on the card in the box.
- If your Mini Hub has a screen, press the menu button twice, then the power button once to view the Wi-Fi name and password.
- If your Mini Hub has a BT logo, remove the back cover to find the sticker with the network name and password.
Using EE TV with the Mini Hub
EE TV boxes do not connect via Wi-Fi, so they won’t work with the Mini Hub. You can still use the EE TV app to watch TV. Freeview channels will continue to work during a fault.
Keeping the Mini Hub Plugged In
You can leave the Mini Hub plugged in. Remove the battery if using it for long periods to prevent overheating.
Data Activation and Deactivation
We manage your Mini Hub data based on your situation.
When a fault is reported:
- We’ll send a Mini Hub if you don’t already have one.
- Unlimited data is activated within minutes.
When moving home:
- We’ll send a Mini Hub about 10 days before your broadband stops.
- Data is activated the day before your broadband ends.
When the fault is fixed or broadband is restored:
- We’ll send an email confirming data will be switched off.
- Data is turned off within a week or the day after your broadband starts at your new address.
- Devices should reconnect to your BT Hub automatically.
- Reconnect Smart TVs and gaming consoles manually.
Parental Controls
The Mini Hub uses light parental controls by default. You can change these settings on the BT Halo page at bt.com.

Important to know
The Mini Hub does not work abroad.
BT Wi-Fi discs only connect to your BT Smart Hub 2 - they do not connect to the Mini Hub or other non-BT devices.
