There's no need to call us to activate your Mini Hub when we first send you one. We've already put the SIM card in for you and it should be working and active as soon as you get it
You may already have a Mini Hub that we sent to you as a BT Halo customer. If you experience another eligible fault or are moving home, we can reactivate unlimited data for you while you are without your broadband.
How to get started:
- Plug in and switch on your Mini Hub and wait for it to connect to the 4G network
- Follow the instructions in the Meet your Mini Hub booklet and take a look at these FAQs if you have any issues
- Find the best signal location in your house - this is often near a window. You may want to keep your Mini Hub plugged in to make sure your home stays connected. The charging cable provided can be used with a USB plug. This is useful as it means you can move your Mini Hub around to find the best coverage. You need 4G for the best performance, but it works with 3G too
- Connect your wi-fi devices using the network name and password shown on the password card. This is included in the box. If you can't find it:
- If your Mini Hub has a screen on the front, press the menu button twice, then the power button once. You should see the Wi-fi username (SSID) and password (PWD) on the screen. For further help, see the Huawei quick start guide
- If your Hub has a BT logo on the front, just remove the back cover and you’ll find a sticker showing the network name and password
You can connect up to 20 wi-fi devices. You won't be able to connect devices that need wired access.
The EE TV box doesn't connect via Wi-Fi, so you won't be able to connect it to the Mini Hub. However, you can still use the EE TV app to watch TV. Freeview channels will also continue to work on your EE TV set top box during a fault.
If you're keeping your Mini Hub plugged in for a long time, it's best to remove the battery - otherwise it might overheat.
If you have a fault, we recommend you report it online at bt.com. You can also phone us to speak to an advisor.
If you're a BT Halo customer and have reported an eligible broadband fault, we'll send you a new Mini Hub, unless you already have one that we asked you to keep safe. If you do, we'll switch on unlimited data within a few minutes. If you are a Halo customer and tell us you're moving home, we'll send you a Mini Hub around 10 days before your broadband stops at your old address. If you've already got a Halo Mini Hub, we'll activate it the day before your broadband stops at your old address.
If you also have BT Mobiles on the same account (or have shared your BT Halo benefits with other BT Mobile customers living in your home), they'll get Broadband Backup, offering unlimited data.
Switched on
We'll send an email to the account holder. You'll be able to track the delivery of your Mini Hub on the order tracker, and see that the service is active on the My BT app and the fault tracker on BT.com.
Switching off
Once the fault is fixed, we'll send an email to the account holder to confirm that the Mini Hub data will be switched off within the next week. For a home move, we'll switch off the Mini Hub the day after your broadband is working. Please reconnect all your devices to your normal BT Hub if you haven't already done so. Most of your devices should automatically reconnect to your BT Hub when you turn off the Mini Hub, but you'll need to reconnect devices such as Smart TVs and gaming consoles manually.
Switched off
When the Mini Hub data has been switched off, we'll send an email to the account holder as before. Please make sure you've reconnected all your devices to your BT Hub. You'll also be able to see that the service is no longer active on the My BT app and the fault tracker on BT.com. If you have BT mobiles on the account (or have shared your BT Halo benefits with other BT Mobile customers living in your home), they'll be using their monthly mobile data allowance as usual.
You can adjust the controls for the Mini Hub to make sure you're happy with the level of access everyone has. The Mini Hub setting defaults to light. You can change this on the BT Halo page on BT.com.
No, the Mini Hub doesn't work outside the UK.
Our Wi-Fi disc only connects to the BT Smart Hub 2. This means it won't connect to any other BT devices, like other hubs or the Mini Hub. And it won't connect to any other non-BT wi-fi devices.
