How much notice do I need to give?
To stop your phone service you'll need to give us a minimum 30 days' notice.
If you want to stop the service before the 30-day period ends, you'll be charged for the remaining days.
Examples
If you tell us on 1 November that you want to stop your service on 10 November:
- Between 1 November and 10 November you'll be charged as normal
- Between 11 November and 30 November you'll be charged for the rest of the 30-day notice period.
- You should receive your final bill by 20 November (within 10 days of the stop date).
If you tell us on 1 November that you want to stop your service on 30 November:
- You're giving the required 30-day notice period, and will continue using the service until it ends.
- You won't be charged for any period after 30 November.
- You should receive your final bill by 10 December (within 10 days of the stop date).
Exceptions to the 30-day minimum notice period
- If you're switching to another provider through the normal process, the notice period will be 14 days.
- You don't need to give us notice if the account holder has passed away. The BT account holder has passed away- what do I need to do? >
Changing the stop date
You can change your switching date if you need to, as long as it's not too close to the completion date. Just give us a call, get in touch through webchat, or use the online order tracker.
